Congress has been ground to a halt for the past month since Matt Gaetz spun his caucus into chaos by leading the way in removing Kevin McCarthy from the speakership — leaving the House effectively shut down for 22 days. With the election of extremist ultra-MAGA Rep. Mike Johnson to the Speakership, any hope for bipartisan solutions to the challenges we’re facing seems dim.

We have no choice but to fight as hard as we can for the next year to retake the House majority and stop this slide toward extremism.

I’ve had a front row seat to the extreme right’s dangerous tactics on the Judiciary Committee, and I mean it when I say we cannot let their attacks on our democracy continue. The American people deserve better than the dereliction of duty and chaos of Mike Johnson’s GOP. Democrats have proven our ability to govern, and Americans are looking at us to correct course.
