Friends and Fellow District 6 Community Members,
I am excited to officially announce my candidacy for the Hennepin County Commissioner District 6 open seat!
As many of you know, my husband Brett and I live in Edina with our three sons Sam (14), Caleb (14) and Josh (11) and our adorable dog Lulu (she's almost 2 - we'll get you a picture of her very soon).

I am serving my third term in the Minnesota House of Representatives. My work at the Capitol has focused on many policy areas that overlap with the work the County takes on - from disability and senior rights and finance, to the intersection of mental health and public safety, to environmental issues impacting Minnesotans. I serve as Vice-Chair of the Ways and Means Committee where we oversee many areas of the states budget. This experience working on State policy and finance makes me a unique candidate for the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners.
I hope in the months ahead that I will gain your support to serve as the next Hennepin County Commissioner for District 6.
District 6 covers the communities of Edina, Minnetonka, Excelsior, Hopkins, Wayzata, Long Lake, Deephaven, Northern Eden Prairie, Orono, Shorewood, Minnetonka Beach, Spring Park, Mound, Woodland and Tonka Bay.

The role of County Commissioner is a vital elected role that is largely unknown in most communities but they help make critical decisions on how Hennepin County's $2.6 billion budget is spent to benefit 1.2 million people from repairs to county roads and bridges, to work on public safety, public works, public libraries, and critical county social supports.
Our campaign has also launched a Spotlight Series called “What does a County Commissioner do?” that we're rolling out with emails and on social media that will help the larger community know more about the important work of Hennepin County and County Commissioners.

This race will be decided in a Special Election this Spring. Commissioner Chris LaTondresse resigned effective Sept. 21, 2023 to take on an important role in the state which means District 6 now has an open seat to fill in a special election. There is no question, special elections typically have low voter turnout. Our campaign will be working hard to make connections throughout District 6 to ensure we turnout the vote!

Please mark your calendars NOW for the Primary and Special Election!
-
Primary - April 30th This will narrow the field, the two top vote winners will move on to the special election two weeks later
-
Special Election - May 14, 2024
Please consider supporting my campaign! You can host a gathering, sign up to host a lawn sign (April to May 14), mail postcards to voters or donate! You can donate up to $250 per person until January (when it changes to $1000 per person), please know any amount will make a difference. These races require public support to win!

At the Capitol, I have built a name for myself as a representative who seeks good ideas on both sides of the aisle and forges compromises to get things accomplished.
I am a mom, wife, legislator, former mental health therapist, community advocate and lifelong Hennepin County resident that cares deeply about people and how policy impacts lives. I am a proud coalition builder who gets things done. I look forward to hearing what matters most to you in the months ahead.
Together, we can do great things.
