In 2020, Congress took a step towards addressing this issue by providing free school lunch and breakfast to tens of millions of children from low-income families. However, last year, this essential policy was allowed to expire due to political wrangling.
A group of dedicated Democratic Senators and members of Congress has now introduced the School Lunch Debt Cancellation Act, a measure aimed at ensuring that families who cannot afford to pay for school lunch are not pushed into debt.
