This Tuesday marks Election Day 2023, meaning we have just one year to fundraise, organize, and win in 2024!

My team is setting a $10,000 grassroots online fundraising goal by Tuesday night to make sure we stay on track. So in a moment, I’m going to ask you for a $3 contribution towards the goal, but first let me explain one more time how we got to this moment.

When the polls closed last year, we were feeling pretty optimistic about our chances. Yes, we always knew it’d be close, but the first few batches of votes released by the registrar showed us with a promising lead.

And while the race wouldn’t be called for days, things were looking good enough to get an invitation to attend new member orientation in D.C.

It was incredible to be in the Capitol, especially after spending over a year running for the job I’d hoped to have.

Then just like that… as I was standing on the House floor, I got the alert on my phone: a new batch of votes finally put Ken Calvert’s vote share out of reach. I officially lost.

It was a tough moment, and I wasn’t exactly sure what would come next. But after seeing Donald Trump announce his campaign, I knew I couldn’t sit this election out.

Now, one year later, we just saw Ken Calvert elect a Speaker who was one of the architects of the plot to overturn the 2020 election in Congress, wants doctors imprisoned for performing abortion services, and thinks that LGBTQ+ people should be purged from our neighborhoods.

It’s time to restore decency to Congress, John. We came closer than anyone expected in 2022 to flipping this seat, and I wouldn’t be in this if I wasn’t confident we could win. But I can’t do this alone:

We can’t count on Speaker Mike Johnson (the guy who led the lawsuit to overturn the election in 2020) to act in good faith to certify the election results in January of 2025. And we certainly can’t count on Ken Calvert.
