Mali wins their first basketball gold!
We’ve got our 2023 World Games moment of triumph!

Special Olympics Mali and their powerhouse basketball team took gold in this year’s World Games – a FIRST for the African nation’s Special Olympics basketball program! In fact, the all-women team, called the Lady Eagles, never even lost one game during their thrilling run at these last World Games.

Like many countries where Special Olympics operates, Mali is continuing to open up their society to people with intellectual disabilities (ID). But too many Malians with ID, especially young people, are still hidden in their homes and left out of sports altogether. The Lady Eagles’ thunderous moment of triumph this summer is a mighty leap in the right direction.

Steadfast supporters of Special Olympics like you, make more moments of triumph possible for athletes with ID than we could ever count. Will you help the next athlete, who might still be waiting on the sidelines, find their moment of triumph? Give today:
