Giving guns to teachers won’t keep us safe.

John, my jaw dropped when I heard the latest proposal from Georgia Republicans. Our extremist far-right Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones wants to pay teachers up to $10k – in taxpayer money – to carry guns in schools.

Calling this a bad idea is an understatement. After years of devastating school shootings, the GOP has blocked every attempt from Democrats like myself to make it harder for dangerous people to access firearms. Instead, they think putting more guns in schools will somehow solve our epidemic of gun violence.

We can’t allow this to happen in Georgia, John. Sign my petition ASAP to tell Burt Jones and the GOP that more guns in schools aren’t the answer.

Not only does Burt Jones want to spend your taxpayer money on putting guns in the classroom, but he’ll also lash out at people like me who are fighting for gun reform. Look what he tweeted just last week:

Teachers are not in the classroom to serve as armed law enforcement, and putting more firearms in the school building won’t keep our kids safe.

While actual Georgia teachers are calling for actual gun safety legislation, Burt Jones and the GOP want to spend your taxpayer money making our kids less safe.

I won’t back down from his attacks, and I’ll do everything in my power to stop this dangerous policy. Click here to sign my petition to put pressure on the GOP to walk back this proposal →
