Tutu and Arendelle are resilient and inspiring turkeys with similar heartbreaking pasts.
Both survived industrialized agriculture and escaped slaughter. On factory farms, thousands of turkeys are crowded into filthy sheds, with little or no outdoor access.
Like most of these birds, Arendelle and Tutu suffered “debeaking,” the cruel removal of a turkey’s nerve-filled beak tip with no pain relief. Tutu also had scrapes and wounds, signs of stressful crowding.
At Farm Sanctuary, we know Tutu and Arendelle are individuals, who deserve our care and respect.
But in the heartless world of factory farming, turkeys are “commodities:”
Bred to grow so large they can’t fly, mate, or even walk
Killed at only around 4 months old, though wild turkeys can live up to 4 years
Conscious when killed, unprotected by the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act
Slaughtered by the millions each year (210 million in 2022)
Today, Tutu and Arendelle are safe in our care at the New York sanctuary.
Tutu is known as “The Charmer” of our flock, outgoing, curious, and always making new friends. Arendelle is sassy and opinionated, but definitely “The Cuddle Bug,” who loves spending time with friends and with caregivers who give their sweet treats.
Right now, you can symbolically adopt Tutu or Arendelle for $35, helping to create a kinder world for all turkeys.
Your Adopt a Turkey Project gift will instantly support Tutu or Arendelle’s care at Farm Sanctuary and strengthen our ongoing efforts to advocate for turkeys still suffering.
In gratitude, we’ll send you a personalized adoption certificate (your choice of print or digital) featuringTutuorArendelle.
Each features beautiful photos and facts about your new turkey friend, along with their rescue story. Proudly display the certificate on your holiday table or share the love by posting it on social media.
In our modern food system, turkeys have nothing to be thankful for.
Thank you for considering this compassionate holiday tradition and helping us create a kinder tomorrow for all.
