Weekend Reading

Dear John,

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire. Water, food, and fuel are running out while the Israeli government continues its invasion and bombing campaigns. But we are not powerless. There are ways every one of us can help. Here are six things you can do to support Palestinians in Gaza. [link removed]

Here are this week's picks to inform and support your activism:

Rep. Pocan, can we talk about Gaza?: [link removed] U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan has long been a champion for the rights of Palestinian children and families living under Israeli occupation. In this open letter, AFSC’s Jennifer Bing urges him to do everything in his power to protect the lives of people in Gaza and support legislation calling for an immediate cease-fire. (Common Dreams)

Tell your governor to restore voting rights for all: [link removed] On Tuesday, many of us will head to the polls. But right now, there are an estimated 4.6 million people—disproportionately Black and Brown people—who are denied their right to vote because they have felony convictions. It’s long past time for that to change. Urge your governor to end felony disenfranchisement today.

Connecting farmers and preschoolers in New Mexico: [link removed] Since 2015, AFSC has helped small-scale, local farmers supply fresh vegetables to preschools, especially those serving low-income kids. Through healthy eating campaigns, we also give preschoolers a chance to eat and learn about nutritious foods and where they come from. (Green Fire Times)

Call-in Day for the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act (Thurs., Nov. 9, 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT): [link removed] Take action with people across the U.S. to call for peace on the Korean Peninsula. AFSC and partner organizations are hosting a call-in day to urge Congress to support the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act (H.R. 1369). Join us! Here’s one more thing you can do today: Send a message to your member of Congress asking for their support! [link removed]

Our largest match of the year: [link removed] We rely on donations from caring people like you to fund worldwide work for peace, justice, and human dignity. Now through Nov. 20, your gift will help secure a $500,000 match. If you haven’t yet donated, please make a gift today!

Special thanks to our monthly donors, our Partners for Peace, for their ongoing support to make all our work possible.
