When politicians overhauled welfare in the 1990s, work was center stage. Now, welfare recipients would have to get a job – or do a “work activity” – to qualify for their government check.

But this movement to get people back to work has spawned a lucrative industry ([link removed]) that’s profiting off people in need.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that every day, more than 16 veterans die by suicide. Other studies put the death toll as high as 44 a day.
