This Week in the People’s House and Southeast Wisconsin
November 3, 2023
The House Floor
The House of Representatives passed two major bills this week. First, we passed the Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency spending bill. The bill reduces the total spending from last year and helps unleash American energy, while still providing critical funds to help manage public land and protect the environment.
Israel is at war with Hamas terrorists. To support our ally during this time, the House passed legislation to provide weapons to Israel. To be fiscally responsible, this bill is paid for by cutting spending elsewhere. The bill provides a $3.5 billion grant to Israel to buy U.S. weapons for their defense as well as training on how to use the weapons. It directs $5.2 billion for Israel’s current defense systems that shoot down incoming missiles that are aimed at innocent Israeli civilians. The bill also includes $4.4 billion to fund American weapons for the U.S. military. We are best positioned to advocate for peace through a position of strength.
On top of that, it enhances security at the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem and helps evacuate U.S. citizens from the region.

A Great Few Days in Southeast Wisconsin
Meeting with Community Leaders in Janesville
I had a great time at Forward Janesville’s Annual Dinner. At the dinner, I had the opportunity to meet with community leaders who help make our community a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
At the event, I held a joint conversation with President Biden appointed Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Xochitl Torres Small about spending, border security, agriculture, and Wisconsin workforce needs.
You can read more about my conversation with Deputy Secretary Small here.
Visiting MacFarlane Pheasants Farm
Did you know Rock County is home to America’s largest pheasant farm? I had the opportunity to visit the MacFarlane Pheasants farm this week. MacFarlane Pheasants is a family-owned and operated farm that was established in 1929. Ninety-four years later, MacFarlane is the largest producer of full-grown pheasants in the U.S. I enjoyed touring the MacFarlane farm with Bill MacFarlane.
Honoring Health Care Workers
Southeast Wisconsin is home to more than 17,000 health care workers who provide our community with care and compassion. Each year, I make it a priority to honor and support health care workers in Wisconsin. This week, I had the privilege to recognize three health care heroes who exemplify service, dedication, and selflessness every day. Congrats again to Melissa, Gary, and Hannah!
On Wisconsin,
Bryan Steil Member of Congress
