Hello, Friends —

For months, I have been pushing back on the National Park Service's (NPS) proposal to regulate vendors on Crab Island. I'm proud to announce that this week, I secured an important legislative win in our efforts to ensure self-determination in the use and future of Crab Island.

NPS is attempting to implement a commercial services strategy (CSS) for Crab Island, which would regulate vendors who sell water, food, and souvenirs off the sandbar. This would not only threaten the viability of the small businesses that operate on Crab Island but also endanger the lives of Crab Island's visitors. Under such a regulation, vendors attempting to stay in business would be forced to set up in the surrounding waters. This would create a situation where Crab Island patrons would have to transit the East Pass, which would pose grave dangers due to the unpredictable channelizing currents the pass produces.

Yesterday, during the House's consideration of the Department of Interior and Environment appropriations bill, I offered an amendment to prohibit NPS from finalizing or implementing a CSS for Crab Island. Thankfully, my amendment was adopted and incorporated into the bill, which passed the House this morning. This is a critical step in asserting that Crab Island is best managed in cooperation with local governments, not through federal bureaucratic intrusion.

REP. GAETZ: MAGA MIKE JOHNSON IS A THREAT TO THE ESTABLISHMENT

Yesterday, I joined "Fearless with Jason Whitlock" on Blaze TV to discuss the election of Speaker Mike Johnson, the backlash he faces from establishment politicians on both sides of the aisle, and the Republican Party's realignment toward a populist, America First policy agenda.

I'm very pleased that the House elected Speaker Johnson. His word and beliefs are driven by the Lord and the Constitution, which has governed the greatest nation to ever exist. Now that House Republicans have the man for the job, we must create and follow the plan to restore our great nation.

REP. GAETZ: "LISTEN TO THE STAGGERING EFFECTS OF THE BIDEN BORDER CRISIS"

During Thursday's episode of Firebrand, I gave a statistical breakdown of the consequences of Joe Biden's far-left border policy. The American people have suffered the staggering effects of Biden's Border Crisis long enough — and the time to close the southern border is now.

In an effort to undo the damage that Joe Biden has caused, House Republicans recently passed H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, which is the strongest border-security package in American history. Unsurprisingly, the bill is being held up in the Democrat-led Senate, which is why I'm calling on the Senate to put the American people first and secure our southern border once and for all.

VA PARTNERS WITH DOD TO INCREASE SURGERY ACCESS FOR GULF COAST VETERANS

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced a new partnership with the Department of Defense (DOD) to increase access to world-class surgical care for approximately 37,000 Gulf Coast-area veterans. Under this new agreement, our veterans will now be able to receive same-day, outpatient surgical care at a new VA clinic in Naval Hospital Pensacola.

Ensuring that veterans have timely access to world-class health care is the VA’s duty. This partnership allows veterans in the Gulf Coast region to receive ambulatory surgical care from VA clinicians, which will be stationed at the new VA clinic in Naval Hospital Pensacola. Previously, local veterans had to travel to Biloxi VA Medical Center in Mississippi for these surgical procedures or receive their care from community providers. Local veterans will not have to change their normal processes to access this care; instead, VA will simply schedule their surgical procedures at the new clinic as appropriate.

Establishing partnerships like this is an efficient and often cost-effective method for VA to increase veteran access to care while helping to modernize the veteran healthcare experience. I commend the VA's work with the DOD to better serve our nation's heroes.

KENNY CODY: Speaker Johnson's rise vindicates Matt Gaetz

"Kevin McCarthy wanted the Speaker's chair, no matter what it took to climb into it. He decided in the negotiations with his many detractors that the motion to vacate would be an easier option to bring to the table if McCarthy did not follow up on his promises on January 6th tapes, fiscal conservatism, Ukrainian aid, and the budget. It did not take long for those promises to falter, and McCarthy was held liable when they did. Gaetz and company held McCarthy accountable because he asked for it, and he paid the piper."

Gaetz voices concerns as 275,000 people leave Florida due to living costs, political issues

"'I am very concerned about affordability in Florida,' Representative Matt Gaetz said. 'I've spent most of my adult life trying to make Florida a place that people would want to come — and we saw so many come to. We saw housing prices rise, and as a result of hurricanes, we've seen rising insurance. I believe the answer to this is to have state backed reinsurance so that you're able to mitigate some of the risk and lower those costs. And if you're able to do that in the short term, I think you'd have more people staying in their homes.'"
