Dear Friend,

Shortly after picking up the gavel, Speaker Mike Johnson delivered on his pledge to bring H.R. 4394; the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act, to the House floor for a vote. This bill provides adequate funding to the Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers civil works projects, and other independent agencies while also modernizing our nation's nuclear weapons stockpile and infrastructure. I voted in support of this legislation.

On November 1, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4364, The Legislative Branch Appropriations Act. This bill funds Congress, supports Capitol Police, and removes wasteful spending on redundant diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

As an active member on the House Appropriations Committee, I remain determined to pass meaningful bills that provide proper funding to the federal government, reign in reckless spending, and deliver results for the American people.

District Updates

Harford County Airport Recognition:

On October 27, my office joined Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly and representatives from Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen in recognizing Harford County Airport as a Drone Center of Excellence. I was very pleased to recognize the great strides these two companies, SURVICE Engineering and Malloy Aeronautics, have made in drone research, testing, and manufacturing.

SURVICE, and its subcontractor, Malloy Aeronautics, produce drones for America’s Navy that can lift heavy supplies autonomously and safely to Marine Corps troops in combat scenarios. I am proud these companies have chosen the First District as their home because they provide high-skilled, important jobs for numerous families.

Standing With Israel:

Following Hamas's on Israel, President Biden sent Congress a supplemental funding package which included aid for both Israel and Ukraine.

I believe that foreign aid packages should address one nation at a time and should include safeguards to ensure these funds are used as intended. In addition, separating foreign aid packages is essential in making sure every taxpayer dollar is accounted for while also ensuring policymakers are aware and informed of what they are voting on.

Israel is in a fight for its very existence and as our closest ally in the Middle East, we must support Israel in their time of need.

I was proud to cosponsor H.R. 6126, the Israel Supplemental Appropriations Act, which provides the emergency funds Israel needs to defeat Hamas, while redirecting $14 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act's army of 87,000 IRS agents to pay for it.

Antisemitism on College Campuses

Across the country, we are witnessing an astonishing rise of antisemitism tolerated on college campuses and in classes. From Cornell to Harvard, Jewish students and faculty members are receiving growing threats of violence.

Because of these actions, I joined several of my colleagues in writing to Ivy League schools including Columbia, UPenn, Yale, Cornell, and Harvard denouncing their handling of pro-Hamas and antisemitic demonstrations on their campuses.
