Dear John,
A single social media post by the hate group LibsOfTikTok, targeting a school or hospital or school bus driver for displaying rainbows, Pride flags, or statements like “love always wins,” may be seen by a half million people, and result in hundreds of hate-filled comments and multiple credible bomb threats.
Social media posts that stoke hatred for LGBTQ+ people contribute to a society where a gay man is killed for dancing at a gas station in New York, and a shopkeeper in California is killed for displaying a Pride flag. When these posts go up daily, the result is a kind of nationwide campaign of terror.
From the Boston Children’s Hospital to a Highland Park elementary school, LibsOfTikTok has been linked to 66 separate threat events within a few days of a hateful post going up.
Send a direct message to the CEOs of Meta (Facebook, Instagram, and Threads), Google (YouTube), and X (formerly Twitter) to remove the anti-LGBTQ+ hate group LibsOfTikTok from their platforms today!
Inciting violence is not protected free speech. Corporations that allow the public to post on their platforms must ensure that the law is not violated and that the public is not put at risk.
TikTok, the social media platform where the group started, set a precedent and suspended LibsOfTikTok for “violating multiple policies, including bullying and harassment, hate speech, and misinformation.” Other platforms should follow TikTok’s lead.
Instead, Facebook, Youtube, and X continue to let this dangerous group spread its violent rhetoric without limits. These platforms have a legal, moral, and ethical responsibility not to amplify the megaphone of groups that threaten the lives of children, doctors, nurses, teachers, or anyone else.
Send them a message today: Social media companies must stop giving LibsofTikTok a platform for hate.
Thank you for helping to build a less violent, more tolerant world.
