It’s a new dawn and a new day under the leadership of our newly minted speaker of the House, Mike Johnson. But I’m still the same old me: a down-home Tennesseean demanding fiscal responsibility in our nation’s capital.
Our friends in Israel are under attack, and I believe with my whole heart that it’s our duty to help them. Yes, this is our ally in the Middle East, and they desperately need us right now, but it’s also simply the right thing to do. That’s why I voted to approve $14.3 billion in federal aid dollars to Israel.
But Speaker Johnson has a fresh take on how to do things from here on out, and because I know we’re on the same page here, I think you’re going to like it. It’s a simple mathematical approach of making cuts in order to make room for spending. Where’s the money for Israel coming from? We’re redirecting cash that was intended for the IRS in President Biden’s useless Inflation Reduction Act.
In a very on-brand and unsurprising move for Biden, he’s threatening to veto the bill. Democrats want to pull the wool over our eyes and pass an “aid package” that is lumped in with a whole lot of crud. From more unchecked dollars for Ukraine to border “security,” which is a complete joke when you consider the fact that our southern border is anything but secure, it’s always the same old song and dance with the Left.
We are surely headed for a political showdown when this thing goes to the Democrat-led Senate. They claim they need IRS funding to go after “tax cheats,” but we know their plan is more swampy than that. They want to nickel and dime everyday Americans selling something for $600 on eBay.
As the old saying goes, Liberals want to rob Peter to pay Paul, and I’ve seen enough. I'm hopeful that we're heading in the right direction with the new speaker on our side, and you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll keep holding the line and demand dadgum responsible budgeting every step of the way.
