It has been another busy few weeks in Ottawa. Canadians continue to struggle under the burden of Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax, while the costs of housing, food, and fuel rise higher and higher. Meanwhile, our justice system continues to go easy on criminals and fail victims.

Pierre Poilievre and your Common Sense Conservatives will axe the carbon tax, build affordable housing, and bring home safe streets. Here is some of the work my colleagues and I have been doing on your behalf:

After years of refusing to give Canadians any respite from the punishing carbon tax, last week Justin Trudeau gave a carbon tax carve-out for home heating oil in the Atlantic provinces.

When asked why the Liberals would undermine their own policy in such an unfair way, a Liberal minister said that other regions which wanted exemptions should “elect more Liberal MPs.”

Conservatives are bringing forward a motion next week to remove the carbon tax from all forms of home heating, all over the country. Will the Liberals let their MPs from Manitoba vote to give their constituents a break?

I am proud to sponsor Bill S-205, which will increase the use of electronic monitoring devices to protect victims of domestic violence while their abusers are out on bail.

I am happy to report that S-205 was supported unanimously at second reading, and I hope all parties will further strengthen it at committee stage before making it into law. Intimate partner violence is a scourge, and we all need to work together to combat it every way we can.

The Liberal Public Safety Minister is pressing ahead with plans to spend $6 billion confiscating the firearms of law-abiding citizens, despite mountains of evidence and advice that this will do nothing to stop violent crime.

Conservatives will fight this colossal waste of time and money, and go after real criminals to bring home safe streets.

Earlier this year infamous serial killer Paul Bernardo was transferred from maximum- to medium-security prison.

The Public Safety Minister at the time claimed he had no idea about the transfer, despite his own office being informed multiple times. He is no longer in cabinet.

But questions remain about how and why this transfer was allowed to happen in the first place. After a month of stalling, the Liberal-NDP coalition has agreed to a Conservative motion to study this decision at committee.

Conservatives will get Canadians the answers they deserve.
