The thought of Trump in the White House again is terrifying – it would spell the end of our democracy. And even though he's under investigation for several of his crimes and facing dozens of federal counts, he's still the Republican 2024 frontrunner. But the 14th Amendment should disqualify Trump from running again, because of his involvement in the January 6th insurrection. See Section 3 of the 14th Amendment: "No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress… or hold any office…who, having previously taken an oath...to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the [Constitution]." And this could happen – hearings have just begun in Colorado and Minnesota to determine whether those states will do it. The Supreme Court will likely have to make the final decision, but it's important that these states first decide that Trump is ineligible to be on the ballot. Yes, it would be unprecedented, but remember that this is the man who sent a violent mob to attack Congress – something unprecedented as well. Trump has more than earned this.
