Friend –
Wednesday’s ruling by the Commonwealth Court on Pennsylvania's participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) was hugely disappointing. But this is not the final word on Pennsylvania’s participation in RGGI or its benefits for Pennsylvanians.
Still, this ruling has significant implications for our state's environmental progress and the protection of Pennsylvanians' constitutional rights to "clean air, pure water, and the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic, and esthetic values of the environment."
We need to step up NOW and make sure Governor Shapiro hears us loud and clear from Pennsylvanians across the state: we won’t back down from the fight for RGGI and neither should he: [link removed]
Governor Shapiro has a robust record of protecting our air, water, and natural resources, dating back to his tenures as attorney general, county commissioner, and state legislator. We have confidence in his commitment to our environment.
But clean energy opponents are pushing hard to force this court decision to stand, which would have a disproportionate impact on environmental justice communities. Your voice will make a difference in giving the governor the momentum to stay strong: [link removed]
Part of this litigation is already under consideration by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, so it is crucial that we urge the Shapiro Administration to appeal yesterday's ruling to our state's highest court. This appeal is vital for making progress in our fight against climate change and our transition towards a clean energy economy.
We know that the Commonwealth Court’s ruling is not the final word on the matter, but that message will be so much more powerful if it’s backed by the signatures of thousands of Pennsylvanians.
Friend – please, sign our petition now to send Governor Shapiro a message: we can’t back down from the fight for PA’s clean energy future: [link removed]
Together, we can protect our natural resources and work towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious Pennsylvania.
Thank you for your unwavering support,
