Holocaust

The symposium in New York this week, the third installment of a series, featured
renowned guest-speakers, including the esteemed Holocaust historian Jacques
Semelin, who spoke about the survivors from Le Chambon sur Lignon, a French
Commune which was used for a safe haven for Jews during WWII. The symposium also
featured Holocaust survivor and French-American documentary filmmaker, Pierre
Sauvage.

Entering IHRA chairmanship, Germany promises to combat Holocaust denial

Ambassador Michaela Küchler, the German Foreign Office's special commissioner
for relations with Jewish organizations who is set to head Germany’s IHRA team,
said in remarks at the handover, "we will preserve the memory of the victims and
survivors forever. We will do everything we can to ensure that the legacy of the
murdered men, women, and children remains inscribed in the memory of humanity."

[[link removed]]Austrian parliament unanimously condemns BDS movement

The resolution also called on the government to “emphatically condemn all kinds
of antisemitism, including Israel-related antisemitism” and for the government
to refrain from funding groups that question Israel’s right to exist. Israeli
Foreign Minister Israel Katz welcomed the resolution, saying he hopes that other
countries and parliaments will “follow in the footsteps of Austria and adopt
similar resolutions.”

Belgian MP Michael Freilich announced that he intended to submit legislation to
the Belgian Federal Parliament that would protect circumcision rights in
Belgium. The announcement came after MP Goedele Liekens of the liberal
democratic OpenVLD Party confirmed that her legislation to end refunding fees
for circumcisions performed in hospitals was the “first step in the right
direction” before submitting legislation to confront circumcision.

Jewish individuals are marked on the Judas Watch website with a yellow Star of
David, reminiscent of the patch tag used by the Nazis. Notable individuals
mentioned on the site include German Chancellor Angela Merkel, condemned for her
policy of welcoming refugees into the country, Federal Minister of Justice Heiko
Maas, due to his stance against the German nationalist Pegida party, and Josef
Schuster, the President of WJC-affiliated German Central Council of Jews
(Zentralrat), simply because he is Jewish.

[[link removed]]In Britain, Lord Pickles condemns MP Tonge remark calling Israel a “puppet
master” of America

Jenny Tonge, a member of parliament, remarked that the UK was on the brink of
falling, “under the shadow of the United States of America and its puppet
master, Israel.” Tonge added that the recently released US peace plan would
“make sure that Israelis do not ever have to come into contact with
Palestinians. Many people have described that as apartheid.”

[[link removed]]Israeli scholar finds millennium-old Hebrew Bible while visiting Egypt

Despite the book being lost for nearly 40 years, and being stored in unsuitable
conditions, only a few dozen of the 616 pages were damaged. Israeli historian
Yoram Meital, who discovered the book, described that the discovery left him
feeling “overwhelmed,” adding that, “it would be difficult to remain indifferent
to the beauty of this manuscript.”
