It’s not that Republicans can’t get their house in order — it’s that they won’t.

Ayanna Pressley for Congress

House Republicans have no interest in a functioning government. Period.

Back in September, they passed a temporary budget extension just hours before a potential government shutdown. They ousted their own Speaker for the first time in history just days later. They held up House business for three weeks before they could agree on another anti-democracy, anti-abortion extremist to replace him with.

It’s clear: the chaos and confusion we have seen from this Republican majority isn’t a residual effect of their incompetence — it’s their strategy. So it’s not that they can’t get their house in order — it’s that they won’t.

Another shutdown looms in exactly two weeks, but this time we have a new Speaker who is the poster child for Republican extremism. And Republicans are once again presenting us with a false, impossible choice: make painful cuts to life-saving government programs or shut down the government.

The people who call this country home deserve a government that functions. And our families and communities deserve to not only survive, but to thrive. This government shutdown stands to harm families across the nation, and I will do everything in my power to prevent it so we can get back to doing the work of the people.

Can you chip in $25 or more to power our movement against Republican extremism? As Republicans continue to manufacture crisis after crisis, I’ll never lose sight of the people and the issues that are top of mind for our communities.

The fact is, since Republicans took control of the House, they have operated with chaos and contempt for the people. They’re playing political games with people’s lives, and as always, it’s the most vulnerable who will suffer: seniors who depend on Social Security and Medicare, single mothers who depend on food assistance to feed their babies, federal workers who would miss critical paychecks, and government contractors who wouldn’t receive back pay.

I’ll always stand with the people and speak out on behalf of everyone who stands to be harmed by a government shutdown. But I need your support to push back against Republican extremism and move past their turmoil.

This movement is fueled by small-dollar supporters chipping in what they can, when they can. So if you’re able, please make a $25 donation to our re-election campaign today.

Yours in service,

Ayanna
