Jack,

Did you know that each year, millions of donkeys are brutally slaughtered for the production of ejiao, a medicinal gelatin that is made from boiling donkey skins?

Experts estimate that the global demand for donkey skins is approximately 8,000,000 to 10,000,000 skins per year. As a result, the donkey skin trade is decimating global donkey populations as exporters, particularly from Africa and Latin America, try to meet this demand.

With more and more Bureau of Land Management (BLM) burros ending up in kill pens and slaughter auctions thanks to the agency’s disastrous Adoption Incentive Program (AIP), these animals are in grave danger of becoming victims of the ejiao trade. This trade is horrific and extremely detrimental to the welfare of donkeys, both domestic and wild. However, the good news is that Congress is taking notice of this issue.

Representative Don Beyer (D-VA) recently reintroduced the Ejiao Act (H.R. 6021) – legislation that would ban the knowing sale or transportation of ejiao made using donkey skin, or products containing ejiao. Will you take a moment to urge your representative in Congress to cosponsor this critical bill so we can put an end to the donkey skin trade? [[link removed]]

TAKE ACTION [[link removed]]

According to the Donkey Sanctuary, a UK-based nonprofit that is fighting to end the donkey skin trade, half of the world's donkey population will be slaughtered in the next five years in order to keep up with the current market demand for ejiao.

Jack, the United States is the third-largest importer of ejiao, with $12,000,000 in annual imports each year. That means passing this legislation would have a huge impact on the fight to end the international donkey skin trade.

Please take a moment and urge your U.S. Representative to cosponsor the Ejiao Act so that we can protect these precious animals by banning the sale or transportation of ejiao in the United States! [[link removed]]
