Pumpkins are a great source of nitrogen for compost! Every part of a pumpkin is compostable - skin, meat, stem and guts. Stop by and toss your pumpkins into the large dumpster so they can be composted! No candles, paint or other decorations, please.

Reuse Series 2: Sewing and Mending for Beginners

Don?t let a missing button or a small hole get between you and your favorite clothes! Learn basic sewing skills such as sewing a button, using pins, snaps and hooks, a simple hem and patching. This class is free, but registration is required.

School District 197 Election Day
Nov. 7; 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
Voters in School District 197 are asked to go to the polls to elect four school board members, vote on a capital project technology levy renewal, and vote on a new operating levy.

District 52B Special Election Primary
Nov. 8 - Early/Absentee voting begins Vote by mail, drop box or in-person at City Hall
Nov. 16 - Primary Election Day Vote at Precincts 2-5;?7 a.m.-8 p.m.
Voters in House District 52B (Mendota Heights Precincts 2, 3, 4 and 5) are asked to go to the polls to select candidates for the Special Election, taking place Dec. 5.

Valley Park Eagle Scout Pollinator Planting Project
You may notice a new addition to Valley Park. Mendota Heights resident Ben Moe completed his Eagle Scout Service project by planting a pollinator garden in north Valley Park, along the trail just south of Bluff Circle. The planting event took place last Thursday, as scouts and volunteers planted over 140 native flowers, grasses, sedges and shrubs.
The project will help create important pollinator habitat in Valley Park and Mendota Heights. To learn more about the project and more about pollinators, Ben has created a QR code for park visitors!

Toys for Teens
The Mendota Heights Police Department and the Community Action Partnership (CAP) of Scott, Carver and Dakota County are collecting gifts for tweens and teens ages 10?18 this holiday season.?Unwrapped donations can be donated at the Mendota Heights Police Department (1101 Victoria Curve) Nov. 6?Dec. 15.?

Fall Street Sweeping
To prevent sediment from entering the City?s storm drains, street sweeping is conducted in the spring and fall. This year, fall street sweeping began Monday, Nov. 6 and should wrap up by the end of the week. You can help by moving vehicles from the street and keeping trash cans behind the curb line. Remember, it is illegal to place yard waste and debris onto City streets.

Weed of the Month: Palmer Amaranth
Palmer Amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri) is an annual plant native to the arid southwestern U.S. and northwestern Mexico, which was accidentally introduced to the southeastern U.S.?
Palmer Amaranth is hard to control once it is established, as it has developed resistance to many herbicides. Prevention is the best management approach, when small populations can be identified early and hand-pulled.

Delaware Ave. and School Travel Safety Improvements
Dakota County is working with the cities of West Saint Paul and Mendota Heights and Two Rivers High School (ISD 197) on proposed pedestrian improvements along Delaware Avenue. The project includes trail and pedestrian crossings. The improvements are from Highway 62 to Marie Avenue, near Two Rivers High School.
A public open house is scheduled for Nov. 16, 2023 at Two Rivers High School (1897 Delaware Ave., Mendota Heights) in the main entrance atrium.
