NEW RESEARCH
In a new report from the National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study ([link removed]) , adult offspring who were conceived via donor insemination by lesbian parents reported how their nontraditional family background influenced their parenting plans. Many explained that their upbringing made them better prepared to embrace their future children's uniqueness in a variety of ways, including their gender and sexual identity.

A number of offspring felt that their experience growing up in a nontraditional household gave them a better understanding of what being a family means, and they looked forward to telling their children about being raised by lesbian parents who fought for equality. Most offspring didn't expect their nontraditional family background to create challenges in raising their children. However, some worried about their children facing negative reactions from others because they had LGBT people or people of different races as family members.

Researchers also asked the lesbian parents in the original NLLFS study about their new role as grandparents. Although few in number, they described the joy of being around their grandchildren and their pride in watching their children become parents.
