Democrat,

This Tuesday, November 7, is Election Day. The entire New Jersey state legislature is up for election, making it a pivotal opportunity for Democrats to come together and make our voices heard. Abortion, healthcare, gun safety, our financial future – these issues are all on the ballot. This election is not just about politics; it's about the principles and values that underpin our society. It's about ensuring that every resident, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to thrive, rather than just a privileged few. It’s about our rights and our freedoms.

Don’t forget, Early In-Person Voting is happening RIGHT NOW until Sunday, November 5! Early voting is convenient and safe.

Governor Murphy, alongside New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance Acting Commissioner Justin Zimmerman, announced that the Open Enrollment Period at Get Covered New Jersey [[link removed]] , the state’s Official Health Insurance Marketplace, has begun. Open Enrollment happens once a year, from November 1 to January 31, and is typically the only time you can enroll in coverage - unless you have a qualifying life event or meet a certain income level.

“Our Administration established Get Covered New Jersey to improve access to high-quality, affordable health coverage for our residents,” said Governor Murphy. [[link removed]] “During this Open Enrollment Period, families who are uninsured or underinsured can access record levels of financial help to lower their monthly costs and obtain peace of mind. I encourage residents in need of health insurance to visit GetCovered.NJ.Gov [[link removed]] to explore their health plan options and find the plan that meets their needs.”

Record levels of financial help are available to help lower the costs of monthly premiums thanks to state investments as well as passage of the federal Inflation Reduction Act – signed by President Biden in August 2022. As a result of the federal savings no one pays more than 8.5 percent of their income for health insurance. It is believed that 9 out of 10 New Jersey residents enrolling in coverage will qualify for financial help, with many having access to a health plan at a cost of $10 a month or less.

You can also use the Get Covered New Jersey Shop and Compare [[link removed]] tool to compare plans and find out whether they are eligible for financial assistance in just a few minutes - all you need is your zip code, birth date and income. Interested applicants must enroll by Dec. 31 for coverage starting Jan. 1; enrolling by Jan. 31 means coverage will begin Feb. 1.

This week President Biden and Vice President Harris announced they are working on building up our country's first National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia - the latest step forward in the work necessary to combat the surge of hate in America. This initiative will bring together community leaders, advocates, members of Congress, and more to develop the strategy – which will be a joint effort led by the Domestic Policy Council and the National Security Council.

This action comes on the heels of President Biden’s directive last year to establish an interagency group to increase and better coordinate U.S. Government efforts to counter Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism, and related forms of bias and discrimination within the United States. In May, the Biden Administration announced a National Strategy to Counter Anti-Semitism [[link removed]] that constituted over 100 new actions and over 100 calls to action to combat antisemitism, including new actions to counter antisemitism on college campuses and online.

These initiatives serve as an important reminder to all of us to continue working to ensure that every American has the freedom to live their lives in safety and without fear for how they pray, what they believe, and who they are.
