I’m honored to say he was named after me following my work to rescue him and other beagles from the deplorable, inhumane conditions at the Envigo breeding mill in Cumberland, Virginia.
Unfortunately, without federal protections in place, dogs like Tim will continue to undergo cruel breeding practices and live in horrific conditions around the country.
It’s why I cosponsored the Better Collaboration, Accountability, and Regulatory Enforcement (CARE) for Animals Act, to strengthen the DOJ’s enforcement power against animal abusers. This bill will give the DOJ the power to charge abusers with fines, suspend and revoke their breeding licenses, and remove or relocate animals so that they can find the loving homes they deserve.
I’ve also been a long-time cosponsor of the Puppy Protection Act, legislation that would amend the Animal Welfare Act to include additional care and safety standards for dog breeders.
It’s terrible that in 2023, there are still people who inflict harm on innocent animals or who willingly cause suffering to dogs and puppies in the name of greed.
No animal deserves to be mistreated or abused.
