Last weekend, at the Florida Democratic Convention, U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost, the youngest Congressman in America, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the need for patience and a positive, progressive vision for the future. Frost urged Democrats to focus on giving people something to vote for rather than against, stating that simply denying opposition claims is not a winning strategy. Florida Democratic Party chair Nikki Fried outlined a 10-year plan to regain control of the state, comparing their situation to Wisconsin's past transformation from Republican to Democratic control. Despite recent setbacks, Democrats highlighted past policy successes, such as legalizing medical cannabis and raising the minimum wage, and expressed determination to fight for victories in the 2024 elections. The party faces challenges, including Republican-led efforts to restrict voting, but Democrats remain optimistic about their prospects and are committed to turning Florida blue.Watch the recap video HERE.
Chair's Corner
Fellow Democrats, just back from the FDP's convention this weekend and it was refreshing to see the palpable energy from both FDP and the attendees about our "Take Back Florida '' focus leading up to next year's election - which is now only a year away! The team's initial phase 2023-2024 game plan is to register over 235,000 voters in the next six months which we, in Indian River County, are mobilizing to make our contribution. If you can help us out with time, talent or treasure, we'd love your support. If you can, don't forget to vote in the various city council elections next Tuesday - your informed vote can make a difference in these non-partisan races!! Contact our office to offer your help or email me at [email protected]. Best regards - Bill Evans
