Hi John,

Happy Halloween! There's nothing scarier than a sea of sewage, right?

Storms battered Scotland in October, now (Storm CiarΓ‘n wreaks havoc in the south). And with any storm, comes the sewage. πŸ‘‡

Our Safer Seas and Rivers Service map on 02.11.2023

πŸ’© THE HIGHEST WE'VE HAD ALL YEAR: There were 4417 SEWAGE POLLUTION ALERT [[link removed]]S in October.

Across the UK, monitored by our Safer Seas and Rivers Service app. [[link removed]]

Water companies are once again showing us that UK sewage infrastructure is not fit for purpose. Every time there's heavy rain, they pump tonnes of sewage directly into our waterways.

As a member, you can hold them to account. For only Β£4 a month, the same as a cup of coffee, you'll fuel lasting, systemic change. Together we can end sewage pollution for good. πŸ‘‡

London Surf Film Festival votes are open πŸ“½οΈLondon Surf Film Festival has just dropped its longlist of short films (shorties) as fresh inspiration for the season ahead. We're stoked to be the environmental partner this year, and keen to showcase why the ocean is so special, through the lens of people who are immersed in it.

Our short film, β€˜The Floater,’ has made the longlist alongside thoughtful travelogues, cold water sessions, tropical delights and littoral insights, traces of chaos and moments of clarity – all told in under 5 minutes. Voting is open until 5th November, so head over and support your favourite shorts by watching, enjoying, sharing and voting.

How can we start the monitoring of our local inland swim spot? Apply for bathing water designation. We'll be holding a Bathing Water Conference on Saturday 11th November in Bristol. Through our Protecting Wild Waters campaign, the conference will include a day of presentations, panel sessions, and workshops..

Designated bathing sites are the only waterways where water quality is regularly monitored for its effect on human health, and legal obligations are put on polluting industries to clean up their act. Learn more at the event πŸ‘‡

"Sewage pollution will be one of the biggest deciders in the next general election. At least according to the volume it was talked about at least weeks Labour Party Conference. Sitting alongside the cost of living, health and education as priorities for the next government one thing was clear, our campaigning has not gone unnoticed."

Reps weekend 2023 πŸ™Œ

We had a blast at our reps weekend. Ever amazed by our reps who volunteer their time to protect the ocean. This time we were up in Newcastle with over 40 reps, incredible people doing incredible things.

You've probably seen our reps on the TV, or heard them on the radio championing better water quality and battling plastic pollution. Here's a huge round of applause for such a great bunch, it was a pleasure to learn with you, and from you. Here's to a Thriving Ocean, Thriving People.

For the ocean,
