The Most Valuable NBA Teams 2023 - Forbes

Less than four years ago, the entry price for an NBA expansion team was $2.5 billion. Once the league signs off on its next round of central media rights deals, that number will balloon to $4 billion to $5 billion.

Today, the average NBA team is worth $3.85 billion, an increase of 35% from a year ago and 75% higher than in 2019. And with the league set to rake in some $13 billion this season (before debt payments and revenue sharing), 11% more than last season, valuations are still heading skyward.

One of the NBA’s growth areas is sponsorships, which inched up last season but could see double-digit growth during the 2023-24 campaign because of the league’s new in-season tournament and more jersey patch deals, like the one recently inked by the New York Knicks.

Scientists Create 'Super Melanin' That Speeds Healing, Stops Sunburn, and More - Gizmodo

A team of scientists at Northwestern University has developed a synthetic version of melanin that could have a million and one uses. In new research, they showed that their melanin can prevent blistering and accelerate the healing process in tissue samples of freshly injured human skin. The team now plans to further develop their “super melanin” as both a medical treatment for certain skin injuries and as a potential sunscreen and anti-aging skincare product.

Melanin is a brown or black pigment that’s naturally produced by all sorts of animals, humans included. Most people might recognize melanin as the main driver of our skin color, or as the reason why some people will tan when exposed to the sun’s harmful UV rays. But it’s a substance with many different functions across the animal kingdom. It’s the primary ingredient in the ink produced by squids; it’s used by certain microbes to evade a host’s immune system; and it helps create the iridescence of some butterflies. A version of melanin produced by our brain cells might even protect us from neurodegenerative conditions like Parkinson’s.

Biomedical engineer Nathan Gianneschi and his colleagues at Northwestern have long been fascinated by melanin’s versatility. After a decade of work, they learned how to mimic and reliably create their own version of melanin in the lab. In 2020, just as the covid-19 pandemic arrived, Gianneschi met fellow Northwestern researcher and dermatologist Kurt Lu, and their respective teams began to collaborate and study whether it could be used to keep our skin safe.

Singapore’s rich the most unhappy in Asia with work-life balance: Swiss private bank survey - The Straits Times

Singapore’s wealthy are the least satisfied with their current work-life balance when compared with their peers in other parts of Asia Pacific, according to a survey from a Geneva-based private bank.

Only 30 per cent of people with an investable wealth of more than $1 million (S$1.37 million) in Singapore find themselves happy with their work-life balance, the lowest among high net-worth individuals in the region surveyed by Switzerland’s Banque Lombard Odier & Cie.

Thailand topped the ranking with 72.7 per cent, followed by Australia, the study published on Thursday showed.
