In November, we come together to celebrate Native Heritage Month , a time to embrace the rich cultural tapestry woven by Indigenous communities. This month, we honor the wisdom of our Elders, the strength of Youth, the enduring traditions passed down through generations, the valor of Veterans, and the timeless wisdom of the Ancestors.
As Democrats, we recognize the profound value of Indigenous knowledge, life ways and relationships, which provide insights into building a harmonious society. The joy of Native humor lightens a collective path through life's challenges. We also acknowledge the historical injustices, such as settler colonialism, that creates enduring scars on Indigenous communities and society as a whole.
While we pay homage to the enduring warrior spirit and the wisdom of Matriarch's who guide us, we also celebrate the inspiring contributions of the Youth, the vital roles played by our revered Elders, the meaningful contributions of Native women, Two-Spirit relatives, and Native men, as well as the essential effort of preserving and passing on our rich cultural heritage.
In this moment, we remember the historic and contemporary leaders who have dedicated their lives to advancing Indigenous rights, environmental justice, and cultural preservation. Their stories of resilience and determination inspire us all.

During this month of reflection, the Native American Caucus seeks to emphasize economic investment directly within Tribes and Tribal communities, supporting Native organizations, respecting Tribal Sovereignty, Salmon and riparian restoration as well as Land Back initiatives. We also prioritize quality of life, through increased access to culturally responsive health, education and justice as a party initiative.
We recognize the tireless work of generations that paved the way for progress. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable Oregon, as we remember our challenging history, celebrate the importance of preserving our cultural heritage, and look toward a brighter future.
