Hi,
Did you know heat waves are growing more extreme and
occurring more frequently? These perilous climate events pose
a threat to human health and put a burden on our energy capacity. High
temperatures can lead to heatstroke and worsen chronic disorders such
as cardiovascular and respiratory-related conditions.1
EARTHDAY.ORG’s The
Canopy Project® works with local communities and organizations
around the world to reforest the land and limit the impact of heat
waves. As a plant photosynthesizes, it releases water vapor through a
process called evapotranspiration that is used to cool the air around
it.2 Trees also provide a source for shade to escape the
heat of the sun.
Will
you help us reforest the planet? Donate today, as little as $1 plants
one tree.
In Morocco, many residents of rural communities are living in
systemic poverty. One strategy for uplifting these communities is
through planting trees. The Canopy Project has already made
transformative changes to the landscape. Through a local
partnership, 42,000 trees have been planted in the M’Goun Valley of
Morocco. The almond, carob, walnut, pomegranate, fig, and
olive trees provide both food security and a revenue source when there
is extra fruit.3
Not only have tree plantings helped local communities and the
economy, but new growth helps with local temperature regulation. This
is crucial, as Morocco expects to experience more intense, frequent,
and widespread heat waves.4 The Canopy Project
reforestation will reduce the impact of climate change on these
under-resourced communities and build resilience, helping protect the
health of residents and lessening the burden on renewable energy
resources.
With growing impacts of climate change, planting trees is
one natural solution to alleviating environmental stresses on
communities.

The Canopy Project today and help build a climate resilient
world!
