As if we needed hard evidence of how extreme Mike Johnson will be as Speaker of the House, he just hired one of Big Pharma’s biggest lobbyists to work as his policy director.
Johnson — like all right-wing zealots — professes a commitment to “free markets.”
(In fact, he already has a page devoted to it on his official Speaker of the House website featuring all the usual — and discredited — right-wing claptrap about “prosperity,” “innovation,” “liberty,” and, of course, dastardly “bureaucrats.”)
Yet somehow Johnson’s supposed belief in “free markets” didn’t stop him from putting someone in charge of his policy shop who has a long history as a lobbyist for an industry whose business model is based on abusing monopoly power.
All this while 9 out of 10 Americans want Congress to clamp down on Big Pharma’s outrageous and immoral price gouging!
Tell House Speaker Mike Johnson:
Your hiring of a Big Pharma lobbyist to run your policy team puts the lie to your supposed belief in “free markets” — a term right-wingers like you always dredge up when what you’re really doing is putting the greed of Big Business before the needs, health, and even the lives of everyday Americans. And if you think that’s not true, we’ll be happy to see you disprove it by using your power as Speaker of the House to advance good legislation that confronts Big Pharma’s monopoly power and its outrageous, immoral price gouging.
