[Join us for International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day on Saturday, November 18, 2023]([link removed])

[International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day]([link removed]) is coming up later this month, on November 18, and there's still plenty of time to [register for an event near you]([link removed]). On that day, also known as Survivor Day, thousands of people will gather in communities around the world for their local events –– and we hope you'll join them.

[In an article for our Real Stories blog]([link removed]), originally featured in the 2022 Annual Report, AFSP Tennessee volunteer Paul Augustyniak talked about losing his wife Alice to suicide in 2016, after having her in his life for 35 years. Paul didn't know what to expect when he attended his first Survivor Day event, but participating was one of the most important first steps in his healing journey.

"I felt less anxious once I entered the building. There were folks seated at tables –– caring faces, some of which reminded me of my own face in the mirror. They were the faces of those who had lost someone close to them. It gave me comfort to be with others that day who carried the same weight I carried. I gained a greater understanding of what we know about suicide, and the resources and support that are available for people."

Like Paul, other suicide loss survivors often experience many "firsts" in their healing journeys. Those firsts can be difficult to face –– like opening up to new people about your loss –– but they can also be incredibly rewarding. We encourage you to join us for a Survivor Day event near you on November 18, 2023.
