Task Group: Transforming Ownership for Social Justice
At October's Co-op Cincy Symposium in Cincinnati, Derek Peebles, ASBN’s Senior Director of Inclusive Economy, conducted a Dream Session on Restorative Investing and Capital. This session explored the innovative world of Community Investment Funds, and emphasized equitable wealth distribution and the empowerment of marginalized communities. Derek urged participants to move away from profit-centric financial paradigms in real estate and instead promote an approach that bridges the racial wealth gap and fosters shared prosperity.

Task Group: Restorative Investing Task Force
ASBN’s Restorative Investing Task Force is grateful to everyone who attended October's ASBN Live Series, where participants made many insightful contributions to the Racial Justice Collaborative. The Racial Justice Collaborative Fund is anchored in the innovative concept of trauma-informed finance, and represents a paradigm shift of placing empathy and understanding at the forefront of financial interactions. Watch a recording of the webinar HERE ([link removed]) , or connect with Senior Director of Inclusive Economy Derek Peebles (mailto:[email protected]?subject=Restorative%20Investing%20Task%20Force%20) to learn how to contribute to this groundbreaking initiative.

Working Group: Democracy
October’s Business for Democracy working group featured Stan Lockhart, former chair of the Utah Republican Party and recipient of the prestigious Ronald Reagan Award for his service to the party. Stan gave a presentation on “The Secret for Talking About Ranked Choice Voting with Republican Legislators,” which included lots of detailed advice for talking with Republican lawmakers about this exciting reform.

The Nov. 1 Business for Democracy webinar featured John McCrae of American Promise. American Promise is working to pass the “For Our Freedom” constitutional amendment to restore the rights of Americans to regulate election money, protect free speech and representation, and combat systemic corruption. Register HERE ([link removed]) for the next Business for Democracy webinar on Dec. 6.

Working Group: Circular Economy
The October meeting of the Circular Economy Working Group was facilitated by Martin Wolf. The group discussed priorities for 2024, and the reintroduction of the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act. We encourage all members to let us know what Circular Economy policies or areas are of interest to you by contacting Abby Maxwell (mailto:[email protected]?subject=Circular%20Economy%20Working%20Group) .

Working Group: Climate and Energy
The Climate and Energy working group heard updates from Mia Woodard, ASBN's Vice President of Government Affairs, about the current situation in Congress, the new House leadership, and what this may mean for our priorities. Our team worked with ASBN member John Imes from WEI to publish an exciting op-ed ([link removed]) warning that climate catastrophe looms larger as lawmakers in Congress and state legislatures obstruct even the most basic environmental protections. Contact Abby Maxwell (mailto:[email protected]?subject=Climate%20and%20Energy%20Working%20Group) to get involved with our Climate and Energy working group.
