It’s not official yet, but I wanted to give you a heads up - it looks like we’re going to be able to defeat Greg Abbott’s school voucher scam. My colleagues and I are holding strong, and Abbott just doesn’t have the votes. We’ll likely make it official on Tuesday. 

Abbott and his backers tried to confuse Texans by renaming this scheme “Education Savings Accounts.” But the truth is that vouchers would redirect funds from public schools into the pockets of the wealthy to give them a discount on the private school tuition they can already afford

It’s a scam, and Texans don’t buy it. 

If you believe like I do that taxpayer money should go towards public schools for all, not private schools for the wealthy few, will you add your name now?  

This is a hard won victory. A coalition of lawmakers, labor organizations, parents, teachers, and schools came together to secure the win, because we all agree: 

Our students and teachers aren’t political footballs, John, and we refuse to let Greg Abbott use them to appease his wealthy backers. 

If we’re going to defeat the far-right ideology taking hold nationwide, we need to keep organizing the community to fight for our shared values. That’s why I’m running for Congress. I hope you stand with me as we continue the fight.
