Friend — After the Supreme Court’s conservative majority overturned Roe v. Wade , 40% of active duty servicewomen were left stationed in places with limited or no access to reproductive care.
This is unacceptable.
The men and women who bravely serve our country deserve the best care possible. Access to birth control for our service members and their families should be affordable, timely, and convenient.
That’s why I’m calling on the Department of Defense to cover Opill, an over-the-counter contraceptive, at no cost.
Getting a prescription for birth control can take time that active service members just don’t have. By making over-the-counter birth control an option, we can eliminate this barrier and improve the quality of life of our service members.
This is especially pressing as my Republican colleagues double down on attacking access to reproductive care for military members.
This spring, Senator Tuberville from Alabama began blocking military nominations in protest of a Department of Defense policy that expands access to reproductive care. I was the first person fighting against this, and have continued fighting it ever since. He’s putting our military readiness at risk.
The men and women in the military defend our rights, and we must defend theirs.
