John, A few days ago, I had the honor of taking the stage at University of Maryland College Park to introduce the inaugural class of Maryland Serves — the first-in-the nation public service year program for high school graduates.
When I look at this inaugural cohort of Maryland Serves, I see courage, compassion, and vision. I am SO grateful to the inaugural class for their willingness to raise their hands. These trailblazers are setting the trajectory to make Maryland the state that serves! We’re showing that service won’t just make our present better — it will make our future better. Service won’t just help address problems in our communities — it will strengthen the very foundation of our democracy. Service won’t just help others — it will shape these young people into leaders for life. John, this is only the beginning. Maryland is paving the path for other states across the nation to deepen their commitments to service through programs just like ours. Together, we’re going to lead the way.
I can’t wait to see what this inaugural Maryland Serves cohort accomplishes in the months, years, and DECADES to come. Let’s serve, let’s win, and let’s do it over and over again! Elevate, Wes Moore |
