Dear John,
The carnage in Gaza and the continued death and destruction being waged against innocent civilians is unfathomable and unjustifiable. As the humanitarian crisis expands, advocacy for a ceasefire to halt the violence is accelerating.
NIAC was among the first to call [[link removed]] for a ceasefire in the wake of the horrific attack on Israelis to prevent more civilian deaths and an all-out regional war. We have teamed up with over 60 organizations to demand [[link removed]] Biden and Congress act and are urging lawmakers to endorse H.Res 786 [[link removed]] , "Calling for an immediate deescalation and cease-fire in Israel and occupied Palestine", to build pressure to halt the killing of innocent Palestinians and avert the expansion of this crisis. That resolution now has 17 sponsors in the House in the face of intense political pressure on lawmakers to resist calling for an end to the conflict.
In recent days, more [[link removed]] and more [[link removed]] lawmakers are also calling for a middle position – a humanitarian pause to the violence – which is a sign that pressure against the horrific violence is increasing. Joe Biden also responded to a rabbi urging a ceasefire by indicating he supports a “ pause [[link removed]] ” to secure freedom for hostages. While this is still woefully insufficient for the moment's urgency, it is another sign that pressure is mounting for a shift.
We have encouraged our members to contact their lawmakers, and our staff and grassroots leaders have been meeting with House and Senate offices. Now, we want to invite everyone to double down on the effort to stop the bloodshed by joining the local, on-the-ground advocacy underway with our local chapters and other pro-peace organizations in your community. Take action below by continuing to call or message your lawmakers, and sign up to learn about opportunities to advocate locally alongside fellow pro-peace advocates:

We cannot allow the world to sleepwalk into a regional war. As Americans, we have tremendous power to stop the ongoing atrocities and a wider war if we force our elected officials to listen to us. As former Rep. Keith Ellison once told our members, lawmakers often don't see the light until they feel the heat. The more our elected officials hear from us, the more that sign up in support of a cease-fire, the greater the pressure on President Biden to shift course and prevent further devastation and disaster.
