GOP senators FINALLY blast Tommy Tuberville over blockade on military promotions
GOP frustration with Tuberville's monthslong hold on more than 300 military nominees finally boiled over when several of his Republican colleagues railed against the sentient clip-on tie's hazardous and incredibly stupid one-man campaign to change defense policy. In what apparently constitutes extraordinary debate on the Senate floor these days, Republican senators — who for months placated the ignoramus' futile crusade against the Pentagon over abortion care policies — piled on the Dumbest Man in the Senate™ and called Tuberville out for jeopardizing national security. Tree stump in a suit that he is, Tuberville remained unmoved.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: New Republican House speaker falls on his face with brazen misstep
Newly crowned House Speaker and annoying hall monitor everyone still remembers from elementary school Mike Johnson is having a hard time defending his emergency aid scheme for Israel, which Republicans are insisting must be paid for by...stripping billions in funding meant to help the IRS catch wealthy tax cheats. "We must defend Israel (and protect and further enrich our billionaire donors) at all costs!" Funny how that works.

Donald Trump Jr. testifies in Trump Organization's $250 million fraud trial, now says he played minor role in company finances
Well, well, well. Bloviating, big-game hunter and braggadocious carnival barker Donald Trump, Jr. — who for years has tirelessly touted both his and his con man father's stunning business acumen — testified on Wednesday that he actually had little to do with preparing financial documents at the family real-estate company that a New York judge has found criminally fraudulent. Don Jr.'s testimony is expected to continue today, followed by Eric and Ivanka, and eventually, the bigly indicted ringleader himself. Hang on to your seats, folks. Things are heating up in the Big Apple.

Before he became a politician, House Speaker Mike Johnson partnered with an anti-gay conversion therapy group
Prior to launching his career as a radical, right-wing, theocratic politician, Mike Johnson partnered with a now-defunct and widely discredited organization called Exodus International to put on an annual anti-gay event aimed at teens, because homosexuality is, like, just a behavior that can simply be Bibled out of kids. Founded in 1976, Exodus International shut down in 2013, with its founder posting a public apology for the decades of "pain and hurt" his organization caused. Conversion therapy has been widely condemned by most major medical institutions and has been shown to be harmful to struggling LGBTQ people. That hasn't fazed Johnson, however, who once blamed the fall of the Roman Empire on homosexuality and has repeatedly called for the criminalization of gay sex.

Rep. George Santos survives effort to expel him from the House
Three-time world jai-alai champion and jelly bean inventor George Santos easily survived a vote Wednesday to expel him from the House as most Republicans and 31 Democrats opted to withhold punishment while both his criminal trial and a House Ethics Committee investigation proceed. The effort to finally kick Santos out of the House, which fell 179-213, was led by his fellow New York Republicans, who are suddenly anxious to distance themselves (ahead of next year's election) from a colleague infamous for fabricating his life story and accused of stealing from donors, lying to Congress, and receiving unemployment benefits he did not deserve. Santos was unusually reserved following the vote, punctuated by the very reasonable, very professional meme 👆 he tweeted shortly after the vote.
GOP Reps. Ken Buck and Kay Granger announce they won't run for re-election
Two Republican House veterans, Ken Buck and Kay Granger, said Wednesday that they won't seek re-election next year, announcements that come after their conference was embroiled in embarrassing chaos for more than three weeks last month trying to elect a new speaker. Buck attributed his decision to retire from Congress in part to his party's reliance on Trump's false claims that that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. Those existential concerns did not apparently extend to the speakership, however, where Buck joined his fellow Republicans last week in unanimous support for Speaker Mike Johnson, a key architect in the MAGA scheme to overturn Biden's victory and upend American democracy. We'd ask you to make it make sense, but that's a fool's errand.

Court fights to prevent Trump from running again for the White House turn to Minnesota
Efforts to use the Constitution’s "insurrection" clause to prevent the disgraced ex-president from running again for the White House turn to Minnesota today with oral arguments before the state Supreme Court, a hearing that will unfold as a similar case plays out in Colorado. Play stupid, treasonous games, win stupid, traitorous prizes.
Ady Barkan, activist who fought for healthcare rights, dies at 39 from ALS
A tireless voice for America's sick and disabled people and a champion of Medicare for All, Ady will be deeply missed. "Ady was a brilliant strategist, an incisive communicator, and powerful advocate who, while fighting for his own access to healthcare following his ALS diagnosis in 2016, became a leader in the effort to save the Affordable Care Act so that tens of millions of people in this country could also get the health care they deserve," wrote Jamila Headley, the director of Barkan's nonprofit, Be A Hero.
