We’re taking a community poll as we enter the holiday season and look back on 2023 as one extraordinary year for the millions of Special Olympics athletes across America and the world. From epic victories on the field to new lifelong friendships, athletes with intellectual disabilities (ID) ROSE to the moment this year!

Special Olympics Mali made history with their FIRST-EVER gold medal finish in basketball! Their winning streak never broke during the World Games, and their moment of triumph sends a strong message back home in Mali, where people with ID face daunting challenges.

Sana may have finished last in her first race in Berlin, but she was ALL SMILES crossing the finish line! For a Pakistani girl who used to be kept inside and shielded from public view because of her ID, Sana made a truly triumphant debut – and even received two standing ovations during an all-star World Games event.

VOTE: ELLA IS FEARLESS

Ella used to fear ANY form of cycling, but after training hard on modified bikes, she crossed the finish line in Berlin on a TWO-wheel bike! This brave Special Olympics Great Britain athlete with ID not only overcame her longtime fears but also pushed herself to be the best athlete she can be.
