Presenters will showcase real-world case studies, offering valuable lessons applicable to broader healthcare applications: elderly patients in Washington DC managing hypertension and pediatrics in South Africa living with or at risk for HIV. Climate change, health, and economic outcomes are inexorably linked, but are often managed independently. Drawing from experiences responding to COVID-19, Cyclone Freddy, and delivering prediction-based HIV prevention, the Government of Malawi has the foundation to break through silos and effectively deploy new technologies. The Government is now looking to further use AI-driven solutions to anticipate climate-induced disruptions and impending disease threats, championing a foresight-driven approach to crisis management. In this session, Malawian policymakers and technical experts will talk through how they built the foundations to make this possible and about their vision for what is next.

Architects of Digital Health: the game that lets YOU take on the role of Minister of Health and: 1) Invest in digital health tools that will strengthen your health system, 2) Collaborate with teammates to plan out how all the applications can work together to improve health outcomes, 3) Tackle unexpected health challenges, 4) Anticipate how to work with new investments. This board game is used to facilitate a rapid scenario planning exercise where session participants will embody the role of health system leaders and work to thoughtfully scale digital health interventions to address the public health needs of their country. It was developed in the context of the Digital Health: Planning National Systems course (a course developed by TechChange, USAID and Digital Square based on materials from the WHO and ITU), to help participants conceptualize and apply key digital health concepts while weighing the tradeoffs in investments and opportunities when implementing digital health interventions.
