Dear Resident,

It’s been a busy few weeks in Parliament and across Erewash, so here’s a flavour of my recent activities as your Member of Parliament.

Unprecedented rainfall from Storm Babet had a devastating impact in Erewash, with over 500 homes and many businesses being flooded. I am concerned about the lack of preparation and the inadequate response of the Environment Agency and other stakeholders. In Parliament I urged Ministers in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to take action to ensure that Erewash residents, who have been affected by flooding, get the support they need, not only to deal with the clean-up operation but to mitigate future flooding. Other parliamentary debates that I have participated in include urging the Immigration Minister to immediately close the Asylum Accommodation Centres on Bostock Lane, raising awareness of the importance of good Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) as well as questioning the Minister for Women over STEM apprenticeships. It has been a busy time in the Constituency too. It was fantastic to once again be at the official opening of the 771st Ilkeston Charter Fair on Thursday 19^th October. The Ilkeston Charter Fair is one of the largest street fairs in Europe and is always one of my highlights of the year. I had great fun on the rides, and I hope that many of you were able to get to Ilkeston, despite the wet weather. A big thank you to everyone who organised this historic Charter Fair.

I’ve also recorded a piece for Erewash Sound’s new Business Podcast and chatted about the important role that Erewash based businesses play in supporting our local economy. Like many community radio stations across the country, Erewash Sound are relying on the local people to support them in any way that they can to ensure that our radio station can continue to inform and entertain everyone across the Borough. There have been numerous other events in Erewash I’ve had the privilege to attend, including opening Chaucer Infant and Nursery School’s sensory garden; viewing Trent College’s new Estates Master and Sustainability Plans; visiting two fantastic local businesses, Concrete Preservation Technologies and Labone and celebrating the launch of the new book Bennerley Viaduct: The Iron Giant of the Erewash Valley. Through my casework, I have also helped hundreds of Erewash residents and within the last month have successfully resolved 305 cases.

🏡 The Department of Energy and Net Zero has relaunched its All Adds Up Campaign helping Erewash households get ready for winter and save money on their energy bills. More information can be found here ([link removed]) .

🌡️Check to see if you are eligible for the Great British Insulation Scheme. The scheme is worth £1 billion over three years and will help over 300,000 households insulate their homes and save money on their heating. Check your eligibility via this link ([link removed]) .

❤️I am urging community organisations across Erewash to apply for a grant to fund a life-saving defibrillator through the Community Automated External Defibrillator Fund. Find out how to apply online ([link removed]) .

🌧️With more wet weather on its way please consider downloading my free flood guide which gives you information on ‘who is responsible for what’ during major flood events as defined in the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. My guide can be viewed here ([link removed]) .
