News from Congresswoman Kathy Manning

Hello,

Thank you for subscribing to my Congressional newsletter. It is my pleasure to represent you in Congress.

I want to provide a brief update on the status of government funding and international affairs:

As you may know, the House of Representatives passed a Continuing Resolution, a measure to temporarily fund the government through November 17. Following the passage of a Continuing Resolution, House Republicans removed Speaker McCarthy and wasted 22 days attempting to elect a new Speaker of the House, during which time no bills or resolutions could be passed on the House floor and no hearings could be held.

On October 25th, House Republicans finally elected a new Speaker, Rep. Mike Johnson. Read my full statement on his election here

Following that unfortunate delay caused by Republicans' internal conflict, Congress only has until November 17 to pass new funding legislation to avert a disasterous government shutdown. In addition, Congress must also pass a supplemental aid package to assist our democratic allies, Ukraine and Israel who are defending themselves from foreign invasion. Read more on my support for President Biden's supplemental packages here

I will continue working to pass government funding that includes priorities for North Carolina's Sixth District and aid for our democratic allies. Read on for more information about the work my team and I are doing for you in Washington, D.C. and in North Carolina's Sixth Congressional District.

Sincerely,

Manning Rejects Anti-Abortion, Election Denier Johnson as Speaker

Congresswoman Manning released the following statement regarding the election of Congressman Mike Johnson (R-LA) as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“Mike Johnson’s record of extremism speaks for itself: he was a leading architect in Trump’s plot to overturn the 2020 election, he’s voted against the right to same-sex marriage, he supports a nationwide abortion ban without exceptions, and he’s led efforts to slash Social Security. In every way, Johnson’s radical ideology is out of step with everyday Americans.

“What’s more, his radical views pose a grave danger to national security. He opposes sending aid to our democratic allies Ukraine and Israel, who are defending their nations and their citizens from Russian invasion and Hamas terrorists, backed by Iran.

“While I’m deeply disappointed that Republicans have doubled down on MAGA extremism instead of working with House Democrats on a bipartisan path forward, I will continue to seek bipartisan solutions and work hard for the people of North Carolina’s Sixth District.”
