Dear National Park Advocate,
There's only a few days left to stop the White House from rolling back key environmental reviews. Will you take action for national parks before the Tuesday deadline?
Environmental reviews assess the potential impact of projects on federal lands -- that's everything from oil rigs to highways. It's how we know if a mine will affect local salmon or whether seismic testing will destroy cultural artifacts. And it's how parks and communities can make sure their interests -- not just industry's -- are heard by the government.
All that could change if the administration goes through with its plan to strip away environmental reviews.
Friend, send your official comment to the White House's Council on Environmental Quality now. Tell them not to cut corners with park protections!
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is the law that requires the government to evaluate environmental impacts -- including cumulative impacts like climate change or indirect impacts like pollution entering a park downstream.
And NEPA is one of the environmental laws that the administration waived so that it could construct a border wall through Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.
A new proposal from the administration would undercut NEPA by cutting out public input and allowing companies to essentially conduct environmental reviews themselves. Worse still, the changes would redefine which projects need environmental reviews in the first place.
Tell the administration to halt its plan to roll back the environmental reviews that are such a vital part of protecting parks from destructive development.
By providing thorough, objective, scientific review and public input, NEPA ensures that nobody cuts corners or sacrifices park protections. It's one of the best tools communities have for protecting their parks and it's under attack. Will you send your comment before Tuesday's deadline and tell the White House to preserve NEPA and keep parks safe?
Thank you for standing up for the laws that protect our parks.
