Dear John,

“Would you rather have a dead daughter or a living transgender son?”

That’s the question a doctor asked Chloe Cole’s parents when she was wrestling with all the natural changes that come with puberty. The only choice was to push Chloe toward gender transition; otherwise, she’d surely commit suicide.

Such manipulation is all too common among radical gender activists – some of whom are practicing physicians. If transition is presented as the only option, it’s easy to see why in Minnesota we now have a law that allows the state to take custody of a child from his or her parents if the child has not been allowed to obtain so-called “gender-affirming healthcare.”

We call it the Kidnapping Bill, because it is essentially state-sanctioned kidnapping, and it was signed into law on April 27, 2023. It will lead to the victimization of young women like Chloe and parents who are just trying to protect their vulnerable children.

Defending against terrible legislation like this is why Minnesota Family Council exists, and why we felt the urgent need four years ago to create True North Legal – to fight the battles that result when the government works against the very people it is meant to serve.

As this law takes effect, we anticipate a growing need for True North Legal’s services, so it’s imperative that we increase their bandwidth. That means, first and foremost, more legal staff so we can be prepared to fight back against government overreach and do our part to prevent what happened to Chloe from happening to more kids.

Will you stand with us as we prepare to defend parents and vulnerable children? Please help us meet the challenges that are coming by generously supporting Minnesota Family Council and Institute and True North Legal with a gift of $15, $25, $50 or even more, as the Lord leads.

You can read more about Chloe’s story here – about the normal challenges of growing into an adult, and the subsequent physical and psychological damage done by radicalized medical practitioners.  By sharing her story, we aim to educate and empower parents to act in the best interests of their children.

Meanwhile in St. Paul, misguided legislators have been rapidly moving in the opposite direction!

The “Kidnapping Bill” took an existing statute that allows the court to take emergency custody of a child in situations of abuse or abandonment, for the protection of the child, and added to it a third criteria: that “the child has been unable to obtain gender-affirming health care.”

You read that right. The state of Minnesota equates denial of harmful, experimental “transgender care” with abuse, turning a law meant to protect children on its head.

The state is siding with a predatory “gender-transition” industry and traffickers against parents and children. Along the way they’re ignoring all the science that raises grave concerns about puberty blockers, sex hormones, and harmful surgeries that can result in sterilization.

Minnesota wants to force parents to choose between subjecting their children to experimental medicine with permanent, life-altering consequences, or risk having the state take their children from them. There is no middle ground.

Leading up to the vote, lawmakers in St. Paul were aware of those facts, because we were there, testifying against this bill and many others.

Our Acting Director of Public Policy, Rebecca Delahunt, and Chief Counsel for True North Legal, Renee Carlson, along with an allied family law attorney, were the only people testifying in person against this bill at every committee hearing. They worked tirelessly to equip legislators on how to talk about the legislation and its threats.

In testimony quoted by a Fox News story on the bill, Renee warned that the bill as written would, “create confusion and increased litigation for the courts, while stripping parents of their fundamental rights, disregarding informed consent and encouraging young children on a dangerous path to serious lifelong biological and medical consequences.”

We are already seeing those consequences realized.

Stunned parents across the state are finding out what happened only now, months later, because the complex legislation was pushed through so quickly and was, of course, often misrepresented by its proponents and in the media, when it was covered at all.

Now True North Legal is fielding calls from parents and school board members who are wondering what the legislation means and what they can do to keep vulnerable children safe.

We want to assure them that we will be there to equip and defend them, but we also don’t want to make promises we can’t keep. The fact of the matter is, the engagement we anticipate on this issue, from advising to filing lawsuits, will be extensive and extremely time-consuming.

That’s why we’re asking for your urgent support of Minnesota Family Council and True North Legal. Please prayerfully consider a gift of $15, $25, $50, or even more as God leads, during this critical time. We must counter the lies of gender ideology with the truth – rooted in Scripture – that confused young people are not mistakes, born in the “wrong body,” but image-bearers of God who are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). Thank you!
