Hi John,

It’s November… and you know what that means.

Our favorite day of the year is right around the corner: election day!

It’s true – even though most federal and statewide races won’t be on the ballot, voters across the country (including in our focus states) will be turning out to vote on November 7.

At Power the Vote, we know these elections matter. Important races are on the ballot – and every election is an opportunity to educate voters, sharpen volunteer skills, and build on the work from prior elections.

Take North Carolina, for example. This is the first election since the new voter ID law came into effect – and this is our first look at how voters will be impacted. The lessons learned this November will inform programming for the primary and general elections next year. And voters who don’t bring ID to the polls this year can be contacted to help them overcome this barrier for future elections.

And in Georgia, new election equipment and systems are being rolled out. What to most seems like the boring mechanics of voting can have a huge impact on voting. Understanding how these systems are working (and not working) will be critical to ensuring that elections go smoothly in 2024.

The bottom line is this – there are no off-years in democracy, and we encourage you to get out there and do your part by voting. (Not sure if you have an election? Look up your ballot with BallotReady [[link removed]] !)

Help us fund voter protection work in North Carolina!

The RNC plans to recruit [[link removed]] tens of thousands of poll workers and poll watchers in 2024. It’s more important than ever that we build a pro-democracy movement to fight back against voter suppression and election subversion.

Funding voter protection staff is the single best way we can prepare now. Help us make it possible for the North Carolina Democratic Party to hire and staff up their program for 2024!

In Other News…

Join us in Atlanta on November 10 for a very special event! We’re hosting a fundraising event with special guest Senator Jon Ossoff to support voter protection staff at the Democratic Party of Georgia! Send us an email to get the details.

Some good news in Georgia! A federal district court judge struck down Georgia’s gerrymandered congressional and state legislative maps after finding that the maps violated the Voting Rights Act. A special legislative session has been called to redraw the maps in advance of 2024. Read more here. [[link removed]]

Battles ahead in North Carolina – A Republican supermajority in the North Carolina legislature passed two new election bills [[link removed]] that will have an enormous impact on voting – including suppressing voters and changing how elections are run. Democratic groups have filed suit.

Join us for a conversation about school vouchers! Texas Republicans want to push through an unpopular school voucher program that would erode public school funding and benefit a select few. The only reason they can try it: gerrymandering and voter suppression insulate them from accountability and have made Texas Republican politics more extreme. Join us tomorrow – November 2 – for a Blue Texas community call with rural firebrand and former teacher Jessica Piper and professor of education Josh Cowan for a conversation about the school voucher scam. Register here! [[link removed]]

We Fund Voter Protection [[link removed]]

In 2020, we ran the Democratic Party’s Voter Protection Program in Georgia, when the state flipped blue for the first time in nearly 30 years.

We pioneered a new model of voter protection, built on sustained investments and long-lasting relationships.

Now, we’re building on that success and adapting the Georgia model to fight voter suppression in other battleground states.

But we can only do it with your support. Join us – and join the fight for voter protection!
