The new Speaker of the House blamed gun violence on “the human heart” and he is dead wrong, John. ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ “At the end of the day, the problem is the human heart. It’s not guns, it’s not the weapons… This is not the time to be talking about legislation. "
–Speaker of the House and gun lobby favorite Mike Johnson
Tell Congress: It IS the guns. Add your name to ban assault weapons. >> [[link removed]]
John,
Not only is Mike Johnson’s response to the heinous mass shootings in Lewiston, ME, wrong – it’s dangerous.
The new Speaker, a Trump loyalist, has a near-perfect rating from three gun rights groups including the NRA. And the blood money that pads his pockets is evident in his response to the tragedy in Maine.
Johnson has offered incessant thoughts and prayers of his own and on behalf of the House of Representatives – placations that neither comfort grieving families nor make us safer. This man is in charge of the very lawmaking body that has the power to stop the next tragedy and he has the audacity to blame the gun violence epidemic on “the human heart”.
It’s the guns, John. And now IS the time to be talking about legislation.
Because we can stop the next tragedy with solutions that are proven effective. The shooter in Lewiston used an assault style weapon to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible. Our nation once had a ban on weapons like this which reduced mass shootings and gun deaths, but the NRA made sure it ended. And if gun lobby backed politicians have their way, nothing will be done to get these weapons of war off the streets. So I need you to speak up and force our politicians past thoughts and prayers and to action: Will you add your name to our petition to BAN assault weapons right now? [[link removed]]
Ban Assault Weapons >> [[link removed]]
Gun violence is not an issue of the human heart – the heart of the American people is strong and drawn toward truth and justice. That’s why the majority of Ameicans support stronger gun laws, including expanded Brady background checks and banning weapons of war. The American people are crying for change, but the hearts of too many politicians are held in the gold fist of the gun lobby.
Please, John, will you help us overcome gun lobby-funded obstruction and push our lawmakers to take action? Add your name now to demand that Congress ban assault weapons and save lives. [[link removed]]
Thank you for taking action in the face of tragedy, to stop the next one.
