Dear John,
Recent News
Hey everyone, a lot has happened in Washington throughout October. We have a new Speaker, we have a war raging in Israel, and we have a government funding deadline closely approaching. Over the next couple of weeks, here is what we have coming up:
Week of October 30th:
- Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill
- Interior and Environment and Transportation Appropriations Bill
- Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill
Week of November 6th:
- Financial Services General Government Appropriations Bill
- Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Bill
Week of November 13th:
- Labor and Health and Human Services Appropriations Bill
- Agriculture Appropriations Bill
Over the next 17 days, Congress is going to be very busy. We have three weeks of wasted time to make up for.
D.C. Update
As soon as Rep. Mike Johnson was elected speaker, we immediately went to work and passed the following legislation!
H.Res. 771 – Standing with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists.
- Resolves that the House of Representatives stands with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists reaffirms Israel’s right to self-defense, condemns Hamas’ brutal war against Israel, and calls on all countries to unequivocally condemn Hamas’ brutal war against Israel.
H.R. 4394 - FY24 Energy and Water Appropriations Act
- Supports a strong national security.
- Prioritizes energy security and economic competitiveness.
- Rescinding $5.58 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
With the passage of the Energy and Water Act, Congress has passed 5 of our Appropriation bills, and with seven more to go, we have a lot of work ahead of us. But I am dedicated to keeping our government open and will work hard these upcoming weeks to ensure we are able to pass these remaining Appropriation bills.
District Update
One of our primary duties in our office is to assist our constituents with any issue they may have with federal agencies. Our federal government consists of over 400 different agencies. If you need help navigating one of them, our team of caseworkers may be able to help resolve a problem or get you the information you need. Every day, we help constituents from our district with Social Security, Veteran Affairs, IRS, Immigration, Passports, SBA, and more.
What type of casework does Congressman Ellzey’s office assist with?
- Assistance with getting an expedited passport and have waited beyond the given time but have received no response or passport.
- Misplaced DD214 military papers and need replacements.
- Assistance with receiving an update on your disability after waiting given time without receiving an update.
- These are just a few of the types of requests we receive. If you are unsure if the issue you are having is something we can assist you with, please contact our office.
What is the process for asking for casework help?
- Contact our district office via email or phone.
- The casework team will discuss your casework. (Before the casework team can begin working on your case, you must complete a Privacy Release Form and return the completed form to the caseworker. After completing the required Privacy Release Form, our casework team will begin working on your behalf.)
- A Caseworker from our team will communicate directly with the agency to discuss your case.
- A Caseworker from our team will keep you updated as new information is received.
- Please note our office may receive a response quickly, as in the case of most passport cases, or it could be 30, 60, 90 days, or more out. Our response to you is based on the response time we receive from the agency. It is also important to note we continue to follow up on your case even if you do not get an immediate response from our team. We are corresponding with the agency to resolve or provide information as quickly as possible.
- Once your caseworker has received a response on your case and/or any documents related to your case, all information will be passed along to you.
How do I contact you for assistance with casework?
- You can contact our office by phone to discuss your needs, use the contact form on our website, or set an appointment to meet 1:1 at our district offices.
Constituent Highlight
In September, I had the great honor of hosting the Day family here in Washington, DC. If you haven’t heard of Isabella Day, she is a remarkable 12-year-old from Waxahachie, TX. She was diagnosed with stage four Neuroblastoma at only nine months old. Since her diagnosis, her family has dedicated their lives to advocating for children with cancer. While Isabella and her family were here in D.C., she was able to meet with key members of our conference to tell her story and raise awareness of the need for more funding for childhood cancer research. From the moment I met Isabella, she was a shining light of hope, and she was able to share that light with my colleagues here on Capitol Hill. I look forward to seeing what the future brings for Isabelle and her remarkable family, and she will do great things.
