DEA Extends Telemedicine Exceptions Through Dec. 31, 2024

In response to ongoing discussions and feedback, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) DEA and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) have issued a "second temporary rule". This rule extends exceptions, first created due COVID in 2020, to existing DEA regulations for new practitioner-patient relationships.

The decision to extend these exceptions comes as the DEA and HHS continue to review and consider revisions to the proposed rules.

Exceptions are extended on current telemedicine flexibilities through December 31, 2024.?The full text of the extension,
entitled ?Second Temporary Extension of COVID-19 Telemedicine Flexibilities for Prescription of Controlled Medications [ [link removed] ],?
was submitted to the Federal Register jointly with HHS on September 29.
