John,
It’s officially November and we are one year out from the critical 2024 elections.
In 2024 like in every election, much is at stake including decisions on whether to invest in or cut funding for education, housing, health care and many other critically needed programs. This is why it’s so important that everyone who is eligible to register to vote, does.
In 2022, Americans voted in record numbers, with 52.2% of the citizen voting-age population participating. However, about 30% of eligible Americans remain unregistered to vote despite robust efforts from civic voter registration programs.1 This gap in registration disproportionately impacts low-income earning individuals, communities of color, and younger people.
As a country, we should prioritize making it easier and more accessible for people to register to vote. That’s why we support automatic voter registration and are pushing for it to be implemented nationwide.
A thriving democracy requires active and engaged voters. Add your name to support lowering barriers to voter registration and implementing automatic voter registration nationwide.

Automatic voter registration isn’t just convenient, it has been proven to increase voter participation.2 Any time you have to interact with a government office or agency—such as when you renew or obtain official identification like a driver’s license—you have to provide key information such as proof of identity, residency, and age. In other words, this is the same information you need to register to vote. We could simplify the process of voter registration by automatically registering eligible voters at the same time they are obtaining an ID.
Our voting rights are under relentless attack with more than 900 anti-voter bills introduced between 2021 and 2023, and 81 signed into law.3,4,5 It’s imperative that we do everything in our power to eliminate barriers to voter participation at every turn. It’s the only way we can have a true democracy that is by the people and for the people.
24 states and Washington, D.C. have enacted automatic voter registration.6 Join CHN and our national allies in calling on the remaining states to remove barriers to voter registration now.
Thank you for all you do,
