Hi Friend,
God told Joshua that in order to defeat Jericho, his army was supposed to march around the city walls once every day for six days, and then seven times on the seventh day. I imagine there were more than a few raised eyebrows among the soldiers at these instructions. By the fifth or sixth day, they were probably tired of hauling their armor around in the hot Palestinian sun. And I'm sure they were tired of residents of Jericho standing on the wall making fun of them.
But Joshua and his men remained persistent and the payoff was massive.
Then there was Naaman, a mighty military commander who was told to go down to the muddy Jordan River and dip himself in it seven times in order to have his skin disease cured. Imagine if, on the sixth dip, he said to himself, "I'm getting nothing but waterlogged. I give up." No, instead Naaman persisted, and his healing was incredible.
Persistence is a virtue that many of us could use help cultivating.
Do you wish to be successful in your family life? Do you want to have greater financial stability in your life? Do you desire to be successful in your business? Do you want to improve the most important relationship of all: your relationship with God?
The key to all of these things is persistence. Consider these modern examples:
- George Lucas's movie Star Wars was rejected by every major studio in Hollywood. But he persisted in submitting it until 20th Century Fox decided to take a chance on it. Of course, it's one of the most successful blockbuster franchises of all time.
- Thomas Edison discovered 1,880 ways not to make a light bulb before he found a way for it to work.
- Babe Ruth struck out 1,330 times, and yet he's considered one of baseball's greatest players.
Thomas J. Watson, the founder of IBM Corporation, said "The way to succeed is to double your failure rate." In other words, "To succeed more, fail more."
That's one of the
10 keys to extraordinary success that are outlined in the book of Proverbs. I explore all 10 of those keys in my book called The Solomon Secrets.
The natural question, of course, is
"How do I develop persistence in my life?" In the book, I've answered that question in detail and I've outlined 9 other significant principles to help you succeed in every facet of life—all of them based on
the truth of God's Word.
If you'd like to get a copy of The Solomon Secrets, now's the time to do it, because we're making it available as a thank-you gift to anyone who donates to Pathway to Victory this month. Included with the book is our ministry-exclusive booklet, Timeless Wisdom from Proverbs.
