John - The New Providence’s economy is transitioning from an industrial base to a knowledge and technology. Some of the greatest strengths of this new economy is that it taps into the creative and entrepreneurial spirit of our people, and it provides an opportunity for everyone to participate.

To support our residents we now offer programs like PVD Self Employment and Design Catalyst to make sure no one is left out of our growth and progress.

And we’ve catered to the strengths of our city with an eye towards the future. We have the first offshore wind farm in America being built right here in the Port of Providence. We have a glimpse into the future of agriculture in Gotham Greens on our food corridor along the Woonasquatucket River. And we have a world class innovation center in CIC Providence as the anchor for our knowledge district. All of this is bolstered by the talent and creativity of the people living in our city.

In The New Providence, cranes and work crews are a fixture as there have been more constructions projects that we have seen in modern history. And these projects are spread across all of our neighborhoods. We’ve seen development such as the Bomes Theatre on Broad Street, the Castle Theater on Chalkstone Avenue, Urban Greens on Cranston Street, and Farm Fresh in Olneyville; all of them on sites that were vacant and blighted not too long ago.

Much of this success is due to our willingness to embrace change, and this is just the beginning.

Jorge
